Maintenance Tips - Oil Changes
"Engine Oil: Your Car's Life Blood ... No other maintenance item is so important for extending the vehicle's life and reducing repair costs." - AAA Auto Guide: Making Sense of Car Care
Oil changes should be completed on a routine basis. If your driving style is described by any of the following conditions, your engine oil should be changed every 3,000 miles.
- Lots of stop and go driving
- Outside temperatures drop below 32° F
- Extensive engine idling
- Driving in dusty conditions
- Short distances of less than 10 miles
- Towing a trailer or boat
- Any commercial service vehicle
- Regular off-road operation
- Using E-85 ethanol fuel
You should also consider checking your oil between oil changes too. A good rule of thumb is to check your oil every time you fill up with gas. If the engine runs out of oil you could risk complete engine failure if the engine were to seize.
